What better way to use all those little pieces of left over fabric than in a scrappy quilt?
And lets face it, its good for the planet too: zero waste and not adding to landfill.
You can make these blocks any size – it’s just a matter of maths.
I have made my blocks 4.5 inch square.
To make a block you will need to cut 1 x 2.5 inch square
2 x 2.5 by 1.5 inch rectangles
2 x 4.5 by 1.5 inch rectangles
Place the right sides together, then sew the short rectangles to the square along one side with a 1/4 inch seam.
Repeat on the opposite side.
Iron flat with the seams to the inside.
Now sew the longer rectangle, with a 1/4 inch seam on the top and bottom.
Iron flat with seams to the outside.
You might now need to neaten up the block. So, trim so you have a neat 4.5 x 4.5 inch square.
and that’s that.
You can go nuts, mixing and matching, playing with all of your of scraps.
You can then lay them out, and work in rows sewing them together. Again with 1/4 seam…. as many as you like!
Then do another row…. and another… and another!
Mine is 14 by 14 and yes it is lots of blocks. But I loved doing it. And I love the result.

Good luck and I hope you will share your results with me!
